Qualitative Analysis--Chemistry!!!

by - March 06, 2016

Do you love chemistry? I do love chemistry!!! XD

Heihei, so today I will be talking to you about chemistry! Haha

We had done qualitative analysis for the cations last Monday. It was quite fun and we really enjoyed it. It was interesting to test the presence of cations by observing the changes in the solutions after adding NaOH and NH3, Ammonia!

This is our first test using Sodium Hydroxide solution, NaOH.

I love the blue in copper 2 ions!

Dirty green XP

Errr, I found that this color is a bit disgusting :(

Here comes the white precipitate!

I love this color~~

A variety of colors~~

My friends are busy recording the observations XP

Our results:

Test with NaOH
Cu 2+, forms light blue precipitate and insoluble in excess
Fe 2+, forms dirty green precipitate and insoluble in excess
Fe 3+, forms reddish-brown precipitate and insoluble in excess
Al 3+, forms white precipitate and soluble in excess which gives colorless solution
Ca 2+, forms white precipitate and insoluble in excess
Pb 2+, forms white precipitate and soluble in excess which gives colorless solution
Zn 2+, forms white precipitate and soluble in excess which gives colorless solution

Test with NH3
Cu 2+, forms light blue precipitate and soluble in excess which gives dark blue solution
Fe 2+, forms dirty green precipitate and insoluble in excess
Fe 3+, forms reddish-brown precipitate and insoluble in excess
Al 3+, forms white precipitate and insoluble in excess
Ca 2+, no precipitate is formed
Pb 2+, forms white precipitate and insoluble in excess
Zn 2+, forms white precipitate and soluble in excess which gives colorless solution
